shifter locked

'00 Accord EX - Automatic

 

I cannot shift gears out of Park without using the shift release mechanism (inserting key).

Once I do so, I can shift in and out of all gears. But, when I put back into Park it gets locked, and I

can't unlock without repeating process of using the shift release mechanism again.

 

Any ideas what may be wrong and how to fix?

according to my manual there is no fuse associated with the gear shifter......

 

so, i don't think it's a fuse issue....ugh.

it could be your interlock mechanism, something similiar to that happened to my 2000 accord, i looked online and honda has arecall for that part so they fixed it for free, try calling honda and see what they say

my 5 speed accord did that, it was the slave cylinder.

Aint that how all autos are?? for safety reasons, like when you leave a kid alone in the car!!

i just know with jags you have to have your foot on the brake pedal to shift out of P

every automatic i've ever been in does that. even my winter beater...my '94 geo tracker lsi...that thing's a beast lol
