2005 Accord MP3 options?

I drive a 2005 Accord LX sedan, but I'd like to play MP3 CDs in it (in addition to perhaps hooking up a non-iPod MP3 player through a regular aux jack). I'm not going to remove the OEM radio (too expensive), so I'd like to clarify just what my options are.

I know I could by a new radio and install it in the little storage pocket (right above the "NOT-AN-ASHTRAY"). BUT, I'd also like to at least keep enough power going into the factory radio to keep the clock going also. So I want to know:

1. Is it possible to have 2 functioning radios in the car, as in hooking up the new headunit to the factory OEM and perhaps running it as an AUX device or somesuch?

2. Is there any way to mod the OEM radio to decode MP3 CDs?

3. Are there any MP3 CD players on the market that function as a simple AUX device without requiring a new headunit (e.g. AUX-pluggable in the same way as an add-on XM radio, or the add-on Honda OEM cassette decks and MP3 CD players?)

4. If a new headunit is installed, can power be kept flowing to the OEM headunit to at least allow for clock functionality?

you mean you want to keep the oem headunit just for the clock??? wear a watch man. there is a thing that hooks into your radio, forgot what it was called one of the guys here will know, that you can plug anything with headphones into. and aftermarket radios have clocks in them, you just have to push a button to see it...

OK, but the whole process would be simpler if there's some way to plug a slave device onto the factory OEM, rather than do a full radio replacement. The question is whether that's possible.

Sounds like a portable MP3 player is the best way to go. It was expensive, but I truly love my iPod! I recommend the PIE HON03/PC-SON Aux Input Converter. Of course, I sell them, so I may be just a little biased! However, we sell lots of them to happy Honda drivers and they work perfectly. I mean no offense, but here is the shameless self-promotion. You can see the adapter here in our online store: http://www.andersonelectronics.net. We specialize in interface adapters, so send any questions our way.

Thanks!

well if you get a new headunit, it will have a clock on it, so you dont have to worry about that. do you have an ipod, or do you just want to play mp3 cds? if have an ipod, you can just buy an itrip and run that through your stock radio

yeah but itrips suck a$$. i used to have one and all the damn mexican stations kept interfering with it. if you want to play mp3 cd's and use an mp3 player with your stock unit then you'll have to buy an auxillary interface and plug in a portable mp3-cd player. and thats dumb you might as well use an mp3 player since you have to convert mp3 on a computer anyways.
