!!! Help!! Have 2000 accord v6 with auto trans with 86650 miles that makes weird popping/crackling noise in area of bottom engine and torque converter/trany. Only occurs when car is fully warmed up and not when cold and first driven. Sounds like a loose piece of metal twirlling around inside. Can be heard mainly when at stop and idle and sound picks up when the cooling fan on engine kicks on in idle mode. Can be hear when slowly pulling into garage to park and picks up when changing from drive to neut or park. Can be heard in reverse as well. Two independent mechanics and one Honda Dealer Service person can hear noise but cannot pin point where but agree that it is lower engine or torgue convert area. No codes come up on diagnostic run. One mechanic did say one area of flywheel looks clean like hitting something but he could not see what it was hitting on. Anyone help out here??? Please, before I blow up the works.

Try checking the heat shield that goes around the exhaust pipe area.Jack up the car and start hitting the exhaust pipes.More than likely it has dirt and debris collected inside.

 THNX FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND COMMENTS, GREATLY APPRECIATED. WENT TO A LARGER METRO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM TODAY. IT WAS FINALLY PIN POINTED TO #2 CYLINDER. OIL PAN WAS DROPPED AND CYLINDER WAS INSPECTED AND ROD AND BEARING NO DAMAGE AND LOOKED OK. SO THE MECH CALLED HONDA TECH HOTLINE AND THEY SAID TO CHECK ALL THE TORQUE SETTINGS AS SOMETHING WAS LOOSE....IS WAS THE CASE AND TORQUE SETTINGS RESET TO FACTORY SPEC AND CYLINDER CAP REPLACED TIGHTENED AND NOW NO MORE CLANKING/POPPING/CRACKLING NOISE. GO FIGURE. COST ME $285.00 IN LABOR AND ALL DAY AT DEALERSHIP. THIS IS MY 4TH HONDA AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS.
