Sideout
Dealer said catalytic converter exhaust heat shield is cracked and starting to rust now on my 2001 Accord V6 Coupe. First time it was mentioned it was $170, now it's $200 last time I went (inflation or what??). Given I see heat shields for $20-$40 and it's a simple welding job (I would think) this seems rather excessive. I'm thinking of getting it fixed elsewhere. I'm in NJ. Any advice? Jeffro
Rip it off or ignore it. As long as you aren't parking over any hay bales or piles of dried leaves, who cares?

James Matteu
The heat shield works to both: keep heat from escaping and setting fire to stuff like leaves, and keep heat from escaping so the catalyst stays at its optimum temperature so it can do its job. Just an FYI, I say do the welding.
