1991 Honda Accord LX automatic transmission, coupe

if the car is cool, it works fine.

once it warms up, the transmission messes up.

car will not shift automatically into first or overdrive.

still works if i put in there manually.

flushed transmission several times. No change.

what do i try next?

i haven't a clue what to try next, i go out of my way to avoid automatic transmissions, therefor I have about |<->| that much knowledge on how to service them. What I do know, is that your year and model auto trans vehicle was one of the most popular ever built, so there are gobs of them in salvage yards everywhere and you can get whole transmission replacements for $100-$200 bucks and only take an afternoon to install.

I'd strongly take Xeryon's advice -- you go taking the tranny to a shop or tearing into it and you're opening a can of worms that isn't worth it.

  • 2 weeks later...

my trans does something similar to urs. i think its the shift solenoid getting warm and not letting the trans shift right. they r located on the transmission, one is on top and the other is more towards the front of the trans down around the cooling fan. this is what they look like.

there r 2 sets.
