ajohnson2087
i have a 2005 honda accord. I am building an aftermarket air intake, ive got the tubing but the tubing obviously doesn't have a MAF sensor plug in on it. Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? Can I bypass the MAF sensor somehow?

James Matteu
Use the mounting from the stock air filter housing and somehow fabricate an adapter to the tube you're making. You cannot bypass this sensor.
ajohnson2087
thanks, what about installing the MAF sensor, just cut a hole and get some sort of gasket that put in the hole to make it air tight?
James Matteu
You seem to have a firm understanding of how to place the MAF sensor, so you don't need me to yes you to death; just do whatever works for you. What you need to put more thought into is placement. Honda put the sensor a certain distance (I don't know how much) from the Throttle Body based on the Intake Air Tube diameter and shape. If you're changing the diameter and shape, which I assume you are as most people change the intake tube to change this area's flow characteristic, then you need to determine the appropriate placement based on your design. ajohnson2087
sounds good but do you know if the sensor has to be air tight or does it just have to be in there, then i dont have to go through all the trouble of locating a gasket or some sort to fit. would be kind of a pain in the ass i think. thanks for your help bud
James Matteu
Yes, it has to be air tight. Otherwise, your bypassing not just the air filtration but the sensor itself since the engine is really a large vacuum pump that'll suck air in from wherever it can.
